Through the Schooled in Asthma Project, the Chapter is exploring models for enhancing communication and coordination between pediatricians and local school personnel (health and administrative) around asthma management. The project is funded by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The goals of the Schooled in Asthma Project are:

Goal 1: To strengthen coordinated school health with focus on asthma management within the Chapter.

Goal 2: Offer Web-Based Resources on school health coordination and asthma management.

Goal 3: Provide a Schooled in Asthma mini-seminar to offer information on coordinated school health models and asthma management to interested health professionals

Project Highlights:

- Pediatric practices in Brunswick and Ellsworth are piloting local school-pediatrician collaboratives to develop plans for coordination of healthcare for children with asthma and ensure that all children with asthma have Asthma Management Plans.

- On July 14, 2005, the Chapter brought in an expert in this subject, Dr. Howard Taras of the University of California at San Diego, to deliver a 4 CME seminar to pediatricians, family physicians, and school health personnel.
