The Colby College and Brown University Collaborative presents: Progress in Pediatrics

A multidisciplinary course intended to provide practical, up-to-date information for practicing pediatricians, family physicians, and other health care professionals. The overriding goal is to improve the knowledge and competence of physicians. Each day of the course will combine lectures and interactive case studies.

Selected Conference Objectives:

  • Identify barriers and facilitators to screening for substance use in primary care
  • Identify ethical and legal issues related to the provision of confidential sexual health
  • Define the risks associated with and means of preventing gender dysphoria
  • Describe family-based, developmentally informed approach to the care of transgender and gender diverse youth
  • Identify red flags in syncope presentation which suggest underlying heart disease
  • Review current guidelines for diagnosing CF and related disorders
  • Evaluate children for sleep-disordered breathing
  • Identify patients in the primary-care office needing emergent oncology evaluation
  • Describe the diagnostic testing and clinical approach to pediatric anemia
  • Describe management of febrile UTIs
  • Describe treatment of phimosis, penile adhesions, and balanitis
  • Increase awareness of emerging infectious diseases
  • Explore how continuous glucose monitors are used in diabetes management
  • Recognize symptoms of thyroid dysfunction
