Length of Quarantine for household contacts & DHHS Update - 2/12/21

Posted on February 17, 2021

A reminder that if children and family members are living with a household member who is COVID+, they need to self-quarantine and monitor for symptoms while the COVID-19 case is home sick. Once the case is released from isolation, the child/family members would quarantine for 10 additional days, then continue to monitor for symptoms for 4 days. Attached is a poster explaining the guidance as well as links to the poster in other languages.

Families have been getting conflicting guidance from medical providers on this topic, leading to confusion with the school contact tracing team and the Maine CDC. If there is a question about the end date of the quarantine for a child with a COVID+ household contact, this end date would be decided by the Maine CDC with the case investigator team and the school nurse. The decision cannot be overruled by a note from a medical provider.
