- Program Overview: Adolescents face unique challenges that providers can assist their young patients in navigating. This ECHO will examine specific health issues unique to adolescents with experts in the field. The role substance use plays in these issues will also be examined as the average age of substance initiation is 12 years old, and adolescent substance use has been found to heighten the risk for violence, risky sexual behaviors, physical and mental illnesses, diminished overall health and well-being, and potential progression to addiction. Providers are in a unique position to impact the well-being of young people through their advocacy and prevention, and this ECHO series will equip them to address the ever-changing landscape of Young Adult and Adolescent health.
