Maine Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics names Gramlich Legislator of the Year

AUGUSTA – The Maine Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics named Rep. Lori K. Gramlich, D-Old Orchard Beach, 2023 Legislator of the Year.

“I am proud to work alongside the Maine Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics to fight for children’s health care and to make sure every Maine family has access to clean, safe drinking water and a healthy environment,” said Gramlich. “Growing up, I had to overcome significant adversity. I knew I couldn’t change my situation as a kid, but I thought back then that, when I was a grown up, I would try to make things better for other kids. As a social worker, I have spent my entire career working to do just that. I am so grateful for the opportunity to continue this work in the Legislature.”

The organization highlighted Gramlich’s ongoing work in the Legislature to expand access to children’s oral health care, mental and behavioral health care and other initiatives to benefit Maine children and families.

“Rep. Lori Gramlich has been an amazing advocate for children's health and children’s access to oral health care,” said Dee Kerry, executive director of the organization. “She has championed multi-year campaigns to expand Maine's school oral health program to every public school by 2025 and introduced and passed numerous pieces of legislation to strengthen water testing and treatment options for low-income Mainers. Rep. Gramlich has worked consistently to make mental and behavioral health care more accessible to children and families. The Maine AAP is proud to recognize her infinite commitment to children and families with our Legislator of the Year Award.”

The Maine Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics is a membership organization of 220 pediatricians and subspecialists who are dedicated to improving the lives of children and adolescents in Maine. The chapter provides members with education and training and works with policymakers to improve access to high quality medical care for children.

Gramlich is serving her third term in the Maine House and represents Old Orchard Beach. She is the House chair of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee.
