Posted on March 03, 2026

Monday, March 23rd from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, Zoom ($15 registration fee)

Hosted by ADEPT

Substance use disorders are most often accompanied by a history of trauma and mental health challenges. How can we promote recovery in all areas, especially when engaging with and treating youth?

This training focuses on understanding how co-occurring disorders develop over time and why they are so prevalent, particularly among young people who have experienced trauma. We will identify the most common mental health challenges for youth with substance use disorders, and complexities to be aware of.

We will then lay the groundwork for understanding trauma and its impacts. With this foundation, we will highlight guiding principles for treating both co-occurring disorders and trauma within a youth development framework. We will then review best practices for screening, assessment, and engagement for youth with trauma and co-occurring disorders, along with evidence-based practices, alternatives forms of treatment and recovery, peer supports, and family supports.
