Young Adult ECHO: Supporting Affected Others
Friday, July 10th | 12:00-1:00PM
Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will explore how SUD impacts individuals using a substance and affected others, with special consideration for adolescents and young adults 2. Participants will examine how positive community experiences impact the treatment of SUD 3. Participants will review the impact of stigma on individuals with SUD and affected others 4. Participants will learn strategies to support individual with SUD and those impacted by SUD Description: A 2021 study found that positive involvement of affected others in SUD treatment improves the treatment outcomes for an SUD client regardless of their age and the treatment model used. Conversely, affected others are at a higher risk of developing an SUD themselves. Affected others, commonly composed of impacted family members, friends, and community members, regularly report receiving few if any services. This ECHO series will explore strategies providers and their teams can incorporate into practice to meet the needs of affected others, as well as their SUD patients.
